A friend of mine collects old wooden wheel clocks (in German: Holzräderuhren). One of them is yet undated, however, on the front the year 1536 is engraved and it would be a sensation to find out whether this year is the year when the clock was built. Unfortunately, the clock is made out of beech wood and it will be very difficult to find some tree ring pattern to determine the age of the clock. Within this small project, I'm collaborating with Ulf Büntgen, the head of the Dendroecology Group at Swiss Federal Research Institute WSL. Maybe we will find a way with the method of carbon-14 isotope dating. I will keep you posted, when I have new news on this subject.
